I was born 25th November 1941 to an unmarried housekeeper in Glasgow and subsequently adopted. Because I was brought up by such loving adoptive parents, I have not tried until now to find my birth mother. Her name in 1941 was Jessie MacDonald, and she lived at 56 Glenapp Street in Glasgow. UKPF have done a lot of research, but here are simply too many marriages in Scotland of Jessie MacDonald in the 1940’s to make any progress. Jessie may originally have come from the North of Scotland.

Tracing back family roots. As the story goes my great great granfather Joseph Marchbank was raised in Manchester by an Uncle atter his parents death. He moved to the USA and had a son my grandfather. John Marchbank. However my grandfather John went by the surname of Warren. The death certif. for John lists him as John Marchbank. His tomb stone lists him as John M Warren. I trying to find out which surname was my great great grandfather Joseph Marchbank actually born with. Being he was raised by an Uncle we believe he took on their surname of Marchbank. I know my grandfather John was born in 1897. I believe this was in the USA but Im not sure. He died on May 23, 1953.
This is such a confusing story . I just woudl like to find out what the birth surname was Marchbank or Warren.

We believe That Robert Victor Mathews was born in Trinidad but have no idea when.
He had no fingers on both hands due to suffering from leprosy when he was young
He got married to a Portuguese woman in about 1940 (we dont know when he moved to the UK)
He went to the Middlesex Hospital in 1957 after a fight in the St Louis Club in Commercial Rd, E1
He was arrested in 1958 and appeared in Marlborough Street Court in Oct. His fine was reputedly paid by President Nasser of Egypt (one of his staff did this on his behalf)
He used to be a regular speaker at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park during the 1960s, he was in the section with the Pan African Speakers and was often kept under surveillance by the Police and Special Branch and was known to them as Fingers.
Lived at 53 Charlotte Street, W1 in the 1970s and died there in the mid to late 1970s suffering from some form of dementia. This was the last time my husband saw him and he didnt recognise his son.
He is reputed to be a controversial figure and at some point was the Secretary of the Colored Workers Welfare Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (1940s or 1950s we think)
My husband was born in 1959.
If anyone out there knows anything at all we would really appreciate if they could contact us in some way.
