The message was from my father, Mr Lorenzo Amatruda who is looking for his cousins who we believe live in Essex, England. His aunt was from Ravello, Salerno, maiden name Rosa Cioffi and she married Faustino Calabritto. They used to live in Ilford, Essex and own an icecream factory. Our aunt and uncle passed away quite a few years ago in England.

Vincenzo

Thanks for your message. My fathers name is Lorenzo Amatruda whose mother was Giuseppina cioffi, sister to your mother Rosa Cioffi I believe. I remember coming to visit zia Rosa and Zio faustino in Ilford as a child (we used to get the 144 bus from Turnpike Lane in North London where we lived at the time). Dad has often mentioned that he would love to see his cousins again (do you have a sister called Jeanette?) Please get in touch. My email is livia@giacopazzi.fslife.co.uk

thanks for your email. You mentioned that you visited your cousin Bruna in Ravello recently. Is this Bruna Cioffi who lives at Via Monte Brusara? If so, my nan, zia Rosas sister lived next door with my nonno giuseppe. They actually lived in my fathers house and this is where me and my boys spend most of our summer holidays. We may even have crossed paths but not known who the other one is!!!!! Its the house to their left and my Zio raffaele lives downstairs. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

sorry to hear about your brother Luigi. My dad was also one of 9, (8 boys and 1 girl - Livia, who I was named after), but unfortunately three of his brothers have also passed away. My nonna passed away in 1984 and my nonno in 1989. Mentioned your uncle Frank to my dad and he does remember him, albeit vaguely. Look forward to hearing from you and dad is especially keen to hear from you. thanks for getting in touch.

livia yes you are correct regarding bruna.we had some difficulty finding the house its many years since my previous visit, so i went to the town hall and asked for the family cioffi the clerk told me that all the people who lived arround ravello were called cioffi, howeever he brought out a very old ledger and after looking through it for a while we found the family, he made a phone call and we were able to arrange dinner with bruna and her family, i very much regret that italian was only spoken rarely in our house so my italian is about nill. just in passing we met brunas daughter regina she took my breath away i thought it was my daughter gillian the likeness was amazing.regards dan

Dan,

thanks for your message, but you have confused me. Bruna Cioffi that lives next door to me does have a daughter, but her name is Sonia, not Regina. sonia is in her early twenties and studies in Torino at the moment. Have we got our wires crossed. Brunas parents, zia Rosa and zio raffaele have both passed away, but she does have 2 brothers, Luigi and Amadeo and sisters called Carmelina, Assunta, Antonietta, Lisa and Rosanna who all live in Torino.

Hi Dan, thanks for your message

Im sure we are thinking of the same Bruna, but I assure you her daughters name is sonia. Her husbands name is Carmine and she has a son called Reno. does that sound familiar? When did you go and visit them. Ill be out there myself in a couple of weeks (as soon as the school holidays begin!!) Ill ask her.
In answer to your question, dad still lives here, he has done for the past 46 years, although he does go back to Ravello at least once a year. they are hoping to go in September this year as its cooler and me and my boys will be back by then (the generation gap doesnt always work when you are on holiday!!!) Mum is also from ravello and she to has been here for about 44 years. they were married here in 1962, although shes not always as keen as dad to go back to Ravello (all those steps are getting too much for her). Shes less keen since she lost her mother two years ago too.

Hoping we can meet when I return from Italy. As Ive said before dad would love to see his cousins again. Are you all living in Essex and surrounding areas? Look forward to hearing from you.

Dan
thanks for your message. I go to ravello at least once a year in the summer. as they have been going all their lives, my boys absolutely adore Ravello and cant imagine not going. Once we get there, I hardly see them. they have many friends and cousins to socialise with. We went there for Easter this year and I hardly saw them for 10 days!!!!! the boys have attended Italian School from the age of 5, therefore fluent in the language (and some neapolitan) and can also read and write Italian. Me and the boys leave for Ravello next Monday (23 July), but because of work commitments my husband cant join us until the middle of August. (my husband, John, is from Parma in north Italy - he will go there first and then join us in Ravello). We return to London on 28th August, just before school starts (I work in a secondary school, which is why I can have the long holidays) My eldest son, Angelo is 17 and has just taken his AS levels. My youngest, Roberto, is nearly 13 and will be in Year 8 come September. We stay next door to Bruna when we go to Ravello. Look forward to finally meeting you when I return from Italy. dad is really looking forward to seeing you again. can you tell me a little about your family? thanks, best wishes to you all. Livia
